This time of year is wonderful; it is warm, colors are vibrant, flowers are blooming and we are busy picking fruit! Lots and lots of fruit. From our small fruit garden we are currently harvesting strawberries (day neutral), raspberries, currants, blueberries, gooseberries and from our tree orchard we collect sweet and tart cherries and the most wonderful of them all - apricots! Later on there will (hopefully!) be table grapes, peaches, plums, nectarines, asian pears and apples.
Picking fruit is quiet meditative work and a reward for David's careful tending of our plantings. Sometimes the weather or pests impact our harvest (eg., our columnar peaches are not going to produce much fruit this year) so, multiple varieties are planted in the hope that something will bear fruit!
